Light Learning

Most learning apps teach a subject. Light Learning teaches your child's actual syllabus, in their own country's words, and it does it with no account, no internet connection, and nothing collected about your child.

SIX NATIONAL CURRICULA, NOT ONE WITH THE LABELS SWAPPED

A child in Lagos gets NERDC strands, Nigerian grade names and the exams Nigeria actually sits. A child in Calgary gets the Alberta programme of studies.

• Canada, Alberta programme of studies
• Nigeria, NERDC
• United States, Common Core
• England, national curriculum
• Australia, ACARA
• China, Ministry of Education

5,541 topics across 32 subjects, written per country, each with its own grade names, strands and exams.

CRECHE TO GRADE 12, AGES 3 TO 18

Counting, letters and shapes at one end. Quadratics, Pythagoras, past papers and the school-leaving exams at the other. Your child does not need a different app when they turn nine.

IT WORKS OUT WHAT TO TEACH NEXT

An optional starting check of about a dozen questions places your child in each subject. From then on the app chooses the next topic from what they have actually answered, aiming at the level where roughly five answers in six are right, because that is where children learn fastest and give up least. Every recommendation tells you why it was chosen.

A child can work above their year in one subject and below it in another. Nothing is locked.

THERE IS NO SERVER

Not an offline mode. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, and no network code that could send anything anywhere. It runs in flight mode on a plane with no signal, which is also the reason it collects nothing: there is nowhere for it to go.

Work, names and certificates stay on the device.

WHAT IS INSIDE

• 128,287 activities, counted once each rather than estimated
• 500 bedtime stories, read aloud at three speeds in a voice you choose
• 507 rhymes and songs, traditional and original, from many countries
• 232 reading passages with questions and a summary to write
• Say It, Spell It, Write It: hearing a sound, choosing the letter, writing it
• Handwriting practice traced with a finger, letter by letter
• A drawing board with letters, numbers and shapes, and a blank page that is nobody's business but theirs
• Nine games, including chess with the real laws

EXAM PRACTICE THAT MATCHES THE REAL PAPER

What the exam covers, how long it lasts, what it is called in your country, and practice papers to sit end to end. Five international exams as well, for families who need them.

SEVEN LANGUAGES FOR THE GROWN-UPS

The interface speaks English, French, Spanish, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa and Chinese, so a parent can read the report in their own language while the child works in the language of their school.

A REPORT YOU CAN ARGUE WITH

Time spent inside lessons, not time with the app open. Questions answered and how many were right first time. Accuracy by subject, with every figure shown alongside the number of questions it came from, so you can tell 80% of five from 80% of fifty.

CERTIFICATES WORTH EARNING

Finish every topic in a grade and the app issues a certificate carrying your child's name, the grade in their country's own words, the full name of the curriculum and the real number of topics mastered. Mastered, not attempted, so it cannot be collected by tapping through. Printable at A4.

ACCESSIBILITY IS NEVER SOLD

High contrast, calm mode, plain language, reduce motion and read-aloud are in the free plan, permanently. Charging for them would charge disabled children more than everybody else.

BUILT FOR CHILDREN, HONESTLY

• No advertising, on either plan
• No chat, no profiles, no way for a child to reach a stranger
• Nothing random to buy, and no loot boxes
• The only mention of price sits behind a parental gate
