Bugzilla++ Firefox

Bugzilla++

Enhances any Bugzilla: attachment previews (50+ file types), dark mode, per-user colors, recent bugs/searches, Markdown, and more.

Features & Capabilities

Bugzilla++ transforms any Bugzilla installation into a modern, productive bug-tracking experience — without any server-side changes.

Works with all public and private Bugzilla instances: Mozilla, Red Hat, Apache, WebKit, kernel.org, FreeBSD, GNOME, LibreOffice, and more.

Attachment Previews — 50+ file types, inline

No more downloading files just to see what's inside. Bugzilla++ renders attachments directly on the bug page:

  • Documents: PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX/XLS, ODS, RTF, Outlook MSG, CSV
  • Images: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, SVG, BMP, ICO, TIFF, and more
  • Archives: ZIP with full sub-file preview (view files inside a ZIP without downloading)
  • Code & text: Syntax-highlighted source code in 100+ languages, JSON, XML, YAML, Markdown, log files
  • Video: MP4, WebM, OGG, AVI, MOV, and more
  • Other: Binary hex dump viewer for unrecognized formats
Attachments are cached locally so repeated views are instant.

Recent Bugs & Searches

A dropdown in the navigation bar gives you one-click access to your 10 most recently visited bugs and bug searches — across all Bugzilla sites, labeled by domain when mixed.

Dark Mode

Full dark theme with:

  • System auto-detect — follows your OS preference automatically
  • Zero-flash — dark mode is applied before the page renders, so there's no white flash on load
  • Manual override — toggle dark/light independently of the OS setting

Accent Color Customization

Pick any accent color per Bugzilla site. Curated defaults are included for well-known instances (Mozilla, Red Hat, Apache, WebKit, kernel.org, and more). Changes apply instantly without a page reload.

Rich Markdown Comments

A WYSIWYG Markdown editor replaces the plain text comment box:

  • Bold, italic, strikethrough, underline
  • Headings, bullet & numbered lists, blockquotes
  • Code blocks with syntax highlighting
  • Tables
  • Task lists (checkboxes)
  • Full keyboard shortcuts

Markdown is stored as plain text — fully readable by users without the extension.

Buglist Table Sorting

Click any column header in a bug list to sort client-side — no round-trip to the server needed.

Relative Timestamps & Age Heatmap

Every date on the page (comments, sidebar fields, bug list, attachments) is replaced with a human-friendly relative timestamp: "just now", "2d ago", "3mo ago", "4y ago".

A continuous color heatmap overlays timestamps from ice blue (very recent) through yellow and orange to deep indigo (very old), so you can instantly gauge the age of any activity at a glance.

Per-User Comment Color Coding

Each commenter gets a unique, consistent color derived from their username. Distinguish authors instantly in long comment threads without reading names.

Modern UI

Improved layout, typography, spacing, and visual polish across bug detail pages, attachment pages, and bug lists — while staying true to the familiar Bugzilla structure.

Privacy

Bugzilla++ operates entirely within your browser. It does not send any data to external servers. Attachments are cached in the browser's local Cache API using your existing Bugzilla session credentials.

Permissions used:

  • storage — saves your preferences (dark mode, accent color, recent bugs) and locally caches attachment data
  • host_permissions: :///* — required to fetch attachments via the service worker, bypassing CORS restrictions that would otherwise block the content script

Is Bugzilla++ Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Bugzilla++ requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

Bugzilla++ may not be trust-worthy. Avoid installing if possible unless you really trust this publisher.
