Budget Exporter Firefox

Budget Exporter

Review bank statement transactions in a sidebar, normalize payees with local rules, and export a YNAB-ready CSV - or push them straight to your YNAB budget via OAuth. 100% local processing, no AI, no cloud, no telemetry.

Features & Capabilities

Budget Exporter

Turn supported bank statement pages into a clean, YNAB-ready CSV — or send the transactions directly to your YNAB budget — in a few clicks. Every step is reviewable, and all processing happens locally in your browser.

How it works

  1. Open a supported bank statement page.
  2. Click the toolbar icon to open the review sidebar.
  3. Inspect each transaction in a compact grid: edit date, payee, category, memo, amount, or split it into multiple entries.
  4. Apply or create payee-normalization rules from deterministic, local-only suggestions.
  5. Export a YNAB-ready CSV, or push selected transactions straight to YNAB via the built-in OAuth integration.
Highlights
  • Review-first workflow — nothing leaves your browser until you approve it.
  • YNAB OAuth integration — connect once, map your accounts, and send reviewed transactions directly to YNAB. Sent items are flagged so they cannot be re-sent by accident.
  • Deterministic, local rule engine — payee cleanup and category suggestions are based on your own rules and history. No AI model, no remote inference.
  • CSV export still works fully without a YNAB account.
  • Manifest V3, modern Firefox sidebar.
Supported accounts
  • Desjardins — bank account
  • Desjardins — credit card
  • KOHO — prepaid card
Privacy

Budget Exporter does not use analytics, telemetry, or third-party tracking. Bank pages are read on-device only. The extension contacts the network in exactly one situation: when you click Connect or Send to YNAB, in which case it talks to https://api.ynab.com using the token issued by YNAB's OAuth flow. That is the only remote endpoint the extension ever calls.

Permissions, in plain English

  • storage — save your rules, categories, and review state locally.
  • tabs / activeTab / scripting — read the open bank statement page so transactions can be extracted.
  • downloads — save the CSV file you exported.
  • identity — open the YNAB OAuth window when you choose to connect a YNAB account.
  • Host access to desjardins.com and koho.ca — required to parse statement pages on those sites.
  • Host access to api.ynab.com — required only for the optional YNAB sync.
Source code

The extension is open source. Build instructions and source are available in the project repository.
