{find+} Firefox

{find+}

A find-in-page extension with support for regular expressions.

Features & Capabilities

{find+} is a powerful Chrome extension that significantly enhances the native find-in-page feature by supporting JavaScript regular expressions. Designed primarily for developers, it enables searching web pages or documents with complex regex patterns, facilitating precise text matching beyond simple keywords.

Key features include find-and-replace functionality, the ability to copy regex matches to the clipboard, and storing frequently used expressions for quick reuse. The extension mimics the native CTRL-F tool but adds much-needed power and flexibility for examining large logs, stack traces, or structured text files. Note that {find+} is best suited for static pages and may not perform well on dynamic content or very large pages.

User Reviews

Users repeatedly praise regex search, usefulness for large pages, and persistent highlighting, while common criticisms focus on the find keyword hijack, UI visibility bugs, unreliable hotkeys, and occasional crashes on large sites.
Pros
  • Regex search support enabling complex in-page queries.
  • Very helpful for navigating large data dumps and long pages.
  • Highlights all matches and keeps highlights visible for review.
  • Easy to use with a straightforward interface.
Cons
  • Hijacks the word find in the address bar with no option to disable.
  • Search box or results panel disappears after certain interactions and does not stay visible across tabs.
  • Hotkey usage is inconsistent with reports of confusion and not working on some systems (notably Linux).
  • Crashes on some very large sites.

Thanks for writing this extension. It looks quite simple but I had tried a bunch of other extensions like this and they all seemed to make weirdly inconvenient UI decisions. This one does it all in a way *more like you would expect it should* - if you have a regular expression already saved from previous use, you can merely click the toolbar icon to apply it to the current page and the highlights come up immediately. Other extensions made you do multiple clicks for no good reason. Seems like an example of "it takes complexity to make things truly simple"

I keep thinking it was Ctrl+UpArrow+F was driving me mad. This is for other dummies like me, it's actually Ctrl+SHIFT+F and yeah it works. Might be a bug, search window disappears after some various interactions such as toggling between tabs or simply selecting or clicking something on the search page.
