User Reviews

Users find Bot Sentinel valuable in identifying and filtering inauthentic or problematic Twitter accounts, improving the quality of their Twitter experience through an easy-to-use interface and rating system. However, common issues include unreliable classifications, frequent "unknown" ratings requiring long waits, and occasional failure to display expected features. Some users express concerns about political bias and privacy risks due to the extension's permissions, which affects trust in its neutrality and security. Overall, it is considered an essential tool by many, but with notable reliability and trust concerns.
Pros
  • Helps identify problematic, inauthentic, or bot Twitter accounts, making the Twitter experience more sane by allowing users to block or avoid disruptive users.
  • Interface is easy to use and integrates smoothly with Twitter, providing ratings or badges alongside accounts.
  • Provides a rating scale (0 to 100) rather than a simple binary judgment, allowing users to apply their own judgment.
  • Helps save scrolling by filtering out low-quality or problematic accounts.
  • Considered essential or very useful for many users browsing Twitter today.
Cons
  • Many accounts show an "unknown" rating, leading to delays or unavailability of detailed reports.
  • The add-on sometimes misclassifies obvious bots as normal accounts, questioning reliability.
  • Users have reported the extension not working properly or UI elements (like badges) not appearing as expected.
  • Concerns about political bias or propaganda, with claims that ratings align with certain political narratives rather than purely authenticity.
  • Permissions and access to domains outside of Twitter (e.g., counter.social) raise privacy and security suspicions, including potential GDPR violations.

The vast majority of accounts show "unknown" and I have to click and wait for over a minute to get a report, which sometimes never happens. Also, a very obvious bot was marked as "normal", so it's not even reliable when all the stars are aligned. Uninstalled after a few minutes.

Is Bot Sentinel Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Bot Sentinel requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
