I tried to stay with Barnes & Noble, as I really like their brick and mortar store. However; apparently they choose not to actually upgrade their app. It has been problematic for years and remains so even now. I tried to search for a book, waited 5 minutes looking at a blank screen. This is a consistent problem. Unfortunately they have chosen not to sl invest in improving the app with any significant upgrades or changes. It's clunky and not very intuitive.

Loses one star for interrupting my day to ask me to write a review. The e-reader itself is fine, works on my phone and is easy to use. It is annoying however that you can't purchase books on the app--you have to buy them on the website and then open them in the app. It is 2026 people; there are apps that write a book for you but you can't be bothered to add a bog-standard store to your app, and you're a major bookseller? No wonder Amazon trounces you.

What happened to two column mode in landscape orientation? can't find it. The book I'm currently reading changed to single column after a restart of my tablet. update: 6/23/26 - inexplicably two column mode came back. I'm so confused, and I hope that doesn't happen again.
