User reviews

BlockSite generally performs its core function of blocking websites effectively and offers useful features like granular blocking without affecting related apps and easy block site actions. However, users report significant drawbacks including delayed blocking after page load, increased resource consumption, unexpected loss of whitelist settings, difficulty accessing options, and occasional site loading problems like with YouTube.
Pros
  • Effectively blocks websites as intended
  • Allows targeted blocking without affecting related messaging apps, offering more control than system-level blockers
  • No easily accessible unblock button, preventing accidental unblocking
  • User-friendly blocking via right-click option
Cons
  • Performance issues: blocks sites only after the page loads leading to a delay
  • High memory and CPU usage when enabled
  • Stability problems: whitelist feature turning off unexpectedly and losing saved whitelist sites
  • Some compatibility issues causing sites like YouTube to not load properly when enabled
  • Toolbar options are difficult to access and redirection after blocking may be inconvenient

Does what it says on the tin. I just wish it worked faster. The webpage loads before BlockSite blocks it. Kind of a bummer, but better than nothing.

Extension safety

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

BlockSite requires a lot of sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
