Features & Capabilities

Block Twitter Promoted is a Chrome extension designed to enhance your Twitter browsing by hiding all promoted contents, including tweets, trends, follows, and suggestion modules. This tool defaults to blocking ads but also allows customization to hide suggestion tweets and timeline modules like "Who to Follow" cards. Additionally, it ensures the Twitter home page always shows the Latest Tweets instead of Top Tweets, improving your feed's freshness.

Compatible only with Twitter's new redesigned UI, this extension respects user privacy by collecting no data whatsoever. Users can easily toggle features via the options page. The project is open source under the MPL-2.0 license, with source code and feedback welcomed on its GitHub repository. Note that Android support remains untested due to the developer's hardware limitations.

Optimize your Twitter experience by removing distracting promotions and seeing timely content the way you prefer with Block Twitter Promoted.

User Reviews

Users appreciate that the add-on effectively hides Twitter ads and promoted tweets on Firefox, making the platform more usable and less cluttered. However, several users note that it doesn't block promoted content on all platforms, only on PC, which can be misleading given the add-on's name. Additionally, a significant downside is that the add-on breaks the infinite scrolling feature, restricting users to viewing only a single page of tweets. Overall, the extension improves Twitter usability but has notable limitations in blocking scope and scrolling functionality.
Pros
  • Effectively removes or hides Twitter ads and promoted content on Firefox, improving usability.
  • Provides relief from repetitive promoted tweets, making the Twitter timeline more manageable.
  • Improves the overall Twitter browsing experience by reducing unwanted content.
Cons
  • Does not actually block promoted accounts on all platforms, only hides promoted tweets on PC, leading to inconsistency.
  • Breaks the infinite scroll feature, limiting tweet visibility to one page only.
