What is Bitcoin Microformats?

Bitcoin Microformats is a Chrome extension that detects embedded Bitcoin addresses in web pages, showing a Bitcoin icon in the address bar. It detects links and meta tags with Bitcoin addresses and allows users to easily view the page's Bitcoin address. The extension serves as a convenient way for Bitcoin users to identify websites accepting Bitcoin and enables future functionality for sending money directly to websites.

Why link to a page, not embedding the address directly?

Well, you can embed your address in every page of your site, a clean way of letting Bitcoin users know you accept Bitcoin, and if the address changes, you only need to change one file.

rather than an external HTML file containing the bitcoin address, why not use the pseudo-standard url: <link rel="bitcoin" href="bitcoin:1FWFiXPTuNwbBdR7jfymq7d2Mk3boTZ8VT" />
