Review summary

Users broadly praise Auto Highlight for reliable, customizable keyword highlighting and frequent daily use that saves time. They highlight its versatility and stability, with many noting it does exactly what it promises and offers per-word customization. However, reviewers want more features and better UX: grouping rules, CSS-limited search, multi-word phrasing, and formatting options. A couple of users also point out a need for easier access (context-menu quick highlight) and improvements when handling large sets of highlights. Overall, it's effective but could benefit from more customization and streamlined UI.
Pros
  • Reliable and effective highlighting that does exactly what it promises.
  • Highly customizable per word and per rule.
  • Great for daily use and saves time on repetitive searches.
  • Versatile and stable extension.
  • One of the few Firefox highlighting add-ons that actually works well.
Cons
  • Requests for grouping rules, CSS selectors to limit search, multi-word phrase support, and text formatting options.
  • Lacks a quick highlight via context menu; currently relies on a dialog.

2025-11-17 Ni***** It's certainly not a replacement for the default find/highlight but on sites where I do the same searches everyday Auto Highlight is a godsend. Also it's persistent unlike the find in Firefox. Firefox clears when you change pages (Chrome is persistent). This is annoying when you have to go through several pages to highlight the same text as you must manually highlight again every time. This is going to save me a lot of time. Thank you Juraj.

2025-09-02 To***** Needs a right click "Quick Highlight" feature. It's annoying to have to go through the dialog every time i want to make a simple highlight. In fact i can't even find a decent highlight plugin for Firefox that works at all. So far this is the only one i have tried that works at all. I have tried maybe 6 or 7.

2025-08-06 Vi***** The extension is great! I'm using it daily. I’d like to make a suggestion, if possible... I’d like you to add the context menu "Delete % (Highlight, Temporarily highlight, Temporarily highlight everywhere, Auto highlight on this page)." Thank you.

2025-07-27 Ba***** Great Addon!♥ however after some point, if you have many highlights saved, adding a new one takes about 10 seconds after selecting the 'Highlight "text"' option (I have AMD 5600 CPU & 32 GB of RAM).

2025-07-13 Th***** Is there a way to do multiple keywords as phrases rather than using 'Each Word'? For example, under one rule: Word1+Word2, Word3

2025-07-08 Al***** Hey! Could you please add to the "Highlight on pages" section an option to enter a CSS selector to limit the search area? That would be really neat!
