The Eortc MoBilE Device (EMBED) study focuses on understanding how cancer patients feel and function in their daily lives during treatment. These aspects are often described as health-related quality of life (HRQoL). To capture this information, we use patient-reported outcomes (PROs), which are questionnaires completed directly by patients. Your responses help provide valuable insights into your symptoms, well-being, and daily functioning.
Traditionally, these questionnaires are completed during hospital visits. However, new digital solutions now allow patients to report their experiences remotely using smartphones. This study aims to evaluate how feasible and user-friendly such digital methods are.
If you take part, you will be asked to complete short questionnaires using this app at several time points over approximately 12 weeks. These include standard, internationally validated questionnaires commonly used in cancer research. You will typically receive a reminder when it is time to complete a questionnaire. Each assessment takes only a few minutes and can be completed wherever you feel comfortable.
The goal of this study is not to test a new treatment, but to better understand how digital tools can support the collection of patient experiences during cancer care. This may help improve future clinical studies and contribute to more patient-centered healthcare.
There are no direct medical benefits expected from participating. However, some participants may find that regularly reflecting on their health increases their awareness of their well-being. The main burden may be the time required to complete the questionnaires.
Your data will be handled confidentially and securely. All information you provide will be stored in a pseudonymized form, meaning it cannot be directly linked to your identity.
Your participation is voluntary, and you can stop at any time without any impact on your medical care.
