Make any website easier to read. Fonts, spacing, tints, rulers, read aloud.
Plainsight is a web browser built for people who find reading hard.
Change the font. Open up the spacing. Tint the page. Follow your line with a reading ruler. Strip an article down to clean text, or have it read aloud. Every setting is one tap away, on every page, and it stays how you left it.
Built for readers with dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, migraine and light sensitivity, visual stress, colour vision deficiency and photosensitivity — and for anyone reading in a second language.
Free. No account. No ads. Nothing is paywalled.
TEXT AND SPACING: Seven typefaces including OpenDyslexic, Lexend and Atkinson Hyperlegible, all bundled in the app so pages load instantly. Sliders for text size, letter spacing, word spacing, line height and paragraph spacing. Cap the line length so your eye never loses its place.
COLOUR AND CONTRAST: Nine page themes from cream and sepia through to a real dark mode and high contrast, plus a custom colour picker. Eight colour overlays with adjustable strength, for glare and visual stress. Filters that shift confusable hues apart for red-green and blue-yellow colour vision deficiency.
READING RULERS: A translucent band that follows your finger, or a spotlight that dims everything except the line you are on. Adjustable height, colour and dimming.
FOCUS: Hide sidebars, comments, promos and social bars. Hide images entirely. Stop animation, carousels and autoplay. Photosensitive safe mode blocks flashing content and animated GIFs. Bold the start of each word, or break long words into syllables.
READER MODE AND READ ALOUD: Strip any article to clean text with your own typography applied. Listen to any page using your phone's own speech voices, with sentence-by-sentence controls — no subscription, no cloud, nothing uploaded.
SCREEN: Dim below your phone's own minimum brightness, and warm the display, for migraine and reading at night.
BUILT FOR REAL HANDS: Enlarge the browser's own controls, not just page text. Set a minimum tap target size. Switch to simplified controls — fewer, larger buttons — for tremor or when a full toolbar is too much. Move the address bar to the bottom if the top is hard to reach.
EVERY SITE CAN DIFFER: Give any website its own settings. Cream paper and a ruler on news articles, untouched on your email, high contrast on your course site.
ELEVEN ONE-TAP PROFILES: Dyslexia. Focus and ADHD. Low vision. Migraine and light sensitivity. Visual stress. Colour vision. Photosensitive. Tremor and motor control. Language learner. Night reading. Each configures a dozen settings at once, and every value stays adjustable.
A NORMAL BROWSER TOO: Tabs, private browsing, bookmarks, history, downloads and five search engines with DuckDuckGo as the default. Set it as your default browser and links from other apps open here.
AN HONEST NOTE: Most reading apps sell dyslexia fonts as a treatment. Controlled studies have not supported that — spacing and line length do far more of the work. Plainsight ships the fonts anyway, because preference is a real reason to use something, but the evidence-backed settings are the defaults. Settings shows what the research says for every feature, including where it is weak.
This is not medical advice, and Plainsight does not diagnose or treat anything. If reading is a persistent struggle, an assessment from a specialist teacher, optometrist or educational psychologist will tell you far more than any app.
PRIVACY: No account. No analytics. No ads. No tracking. Your settings and history stay on your device, and history is excluded from cloud backup. The browser makes no network requests of its own — only the pages you visit do.
