Lean Browser Android

Lean Browser

Private browser that forgets: no history, ad blocker, wipes tabs and cookies.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

The browser that forgets.

Every browser wants to remember you, learn from you and suggest things. Lean Browser does the opposite: simple, not "smart", remembering nothing. It is a private browser, like incognito mode that cleans up after itself, with a built-in ad blocker, for people who want to be forgotten.

Forget
• Browsing data stays in the session. Android WebView writes some to disk, so Lean erases it all when it forgets and again at launch: tabs, cookies, history, logins.
• Choose when: now, after 1 minute (default), 5 minutes, or when you close the app.
• Touch and hold the tab count for "Forget now", or tap it in the panel: the page turns to dust, then an "All forgotten" card shows the space freed up and a counting-up row per group: pages viewed, tabs closed, cookies deleted, sites erased, trackers blocked.
• Forget without opening the app: a "Forget now" button on the countdown notification, a Quick Settings tile and a "Forget now" home screen widget.
• Panic gestures: shake the phone or turn it face down to forget instantly (each can be turned off).
• Self-destructing tabs close themselves after 1, 5 or 15 minutes.
• Share your forget card as an image or a short video, previewed first: it only ever shows numbers, never the sites you visited.

Private
• Built-in ad and tracker blocking, on by default; pop-ups and third-party cookies blocked. See which trackers were blocked on the current page.
• Strips tracking parameters (utm, fbclid, gclid and more) from links, prefers HTTPS, sends Global Privacy Control.
• Cookie banners rejected for you, even when "Reject all" is behind "More options". Never accepted.
• A warning before downloading an app installer (.apk, .xapk, .apks).
• Autoplay video blocked until you tap play.
• Sites ask before using your camera, mic or location; the answer is forgotten with the tab.
• Anti-peek blurs the page until you touch it; the app is hidden in recent apps.
• Lock with fingerprint, face or screen lock. On the lock screen, "Forget now" erases the session without unlocking.
• Warns when a page asks for a password; a certificate error says why the page was blocked and never lets you continue.
• Page QR code: show the current page, cleaned of tracking, as a QR code. Scan QR codes: Lean shows the host before opening anything. Both run on the device.

Browse
• Up to 5 isolated tabs: swipe the address bar to switch, drag cards in the tab grid to reorder.
• Reader view with typeface and background choices, reading time, and Read aloud with your device's voice: pick the speed, skip a paragraph, follow the highlight; control it from the lock screen or headphones.
• Picture-in-picture: a playing video keeps going in a small window when you go Home.
• Dark pages, even when the app is light. Turn JavaScript, images or video on and off for every page.
• Touch and hold an image or link to open it in a new or background tab, copy, share or download.
• Search selected text, Print or save as PDF, choose Mojeek, Qwant, Ecosia or DuckDuckGo (default) and more. Web searches from other apps open in a fresh session.
• Bottom bar folds away while you scroll. Keyboard shortcuts on tablets, foldables and Chromebooks.
• Set as default browser; shortcuts and a widget start a fresh session in one tap.

Transparent
• No AI, no suggestions, no feeds, no account, no analytics, no data collection. Only your settings are stored on the device.
• Privacy policy: https://leanbrowser.homielab.com/privacy

For people who lend their phone, look up private things, or are tired of browsers that track them.

Lean Browser reduces what is stored on your phone and what websites can track, but no browser can make you completely anonymous: your network provider and the websites you visit can still see your connection.

Lean Browser gives access to any site on the internet, so it is intended for users aged 17 and over.
