Overview

Features & Capabilities

"Kotonoa Kanji" is a tracing app that helps children learn all 1,026 kanji characters taught in elementary school grades 1-6 by tracing them with their fingers. It allows children to learn kanji in a fun way while checking the stroke order for each stroke.

■ Learn even unfamiliar characters easily in 3 steps
① Example: Watch an animation showing the correct stroke order
② Guided: Trace along the blue circle and number at the starting point
③ Unguided: Try writing on your own
When you're done, you'll see "You've written them all!". Turning on "Automatic Progression" allows children to automatically advance to the next step without pressing any buttons, making it easy for even young children to practice at a good pace (this can be turned off in the settings).

■ Learn the correct stroke order
Stroke order data has been verified against the Ministry of Education's "Guide to Stroke Order Instruction" (all 1,026 characters match). Each stroke is gently judged based on its starting point, shape, length, and order, and even if you make a mistake, it provides hints like "Start from the blue circle" or "This is the second stroke." Therefore, even without constant supervision from a parent, children can learn the correct stroke order at their own pace.

■ Choose your example line (circle/brush)
You can choose between a "circle (consistent thickness)" and a "brush (stops, flicks, and sweeps)" as your example line. You can visually learn even the movement of the strokes as if writing with a brush.

■ Displays both On'yomi and Kun'yomi readings
Each kanji character displays its On'yomi (in katakana) and Kun'yomi (in hiragana). You can also see the okurigana (suffix), such as "chikara" and "kokono(tsu)." Furthermore, you can color-code the readings according to the stage in which they are learned (elementary school, middle school, high school), and select the range to display. You can even narrow it down to only the readings you are currently learning, according to your grade level.

■ A sense of accomplishment with grade-specific "picture books"
In the grade-specific list (picture book), completed characters light up in gold and chick yellow. You can see at a glance "how many more to complete," providing daily motivation.

■ A reward collection that makes you want to keep going
For every 10 kanji characters correctly written, you receive one "treasure." There are 104 types in 9 series; collect them in your treasure box and aim for completion. The daily "goal" (the target number of characters to write per day) can be decided in consultation with a parent, and the number of characters remaining for the day is clearly displayed on the ring.

■ Usable by siblings (up to 4 people)
Up to 4 child profiles can be registered, and each child's progress can be recorded separately. You can also set your favorite emoji icons.
