You are a reading mage, and every mage needs a familiar. Yours lives on mana, and mana comes from pages.

Familiar is a reading tracker with a pixel-art pet. Read, and it hatches from an egg, grows through five stages and changes with what you read. Forget about books and it slowly turns to stone, until a few pages break the spell. Free, no ads, no account.

🥚 FOURTEEN FAMILIARS
• Mimic, kitsune, slime, dragon, phoenix, griffin, owlbear, moon moth, tanuki, sprout, ghost, bookworm, chimera and magpie
• Each loves its own kind of reading: long books, night reading, streaks, audiobooks, horror, a new genre after the last
• Three can hatch at the start; the rest are found by reading
• A grown familiar takes one of five forms after the books it was fed on: astral, shadow, bloom, sage or wild
• Every egg hatches with a nature of its own, and one in sixteen hatches shining, in a rare colouring

🕯 THE RITUAL
• A candle that burns down while you read, a big "turn the page" button, a fireplace or rain
• Lay the phone face down and the familiar dozes on your lap: quiet time feeds a bonus
• Read or listen: switch any book to its audio version, sitting by sitting
• Read on the train? Log the page you reached, or just the minutes
• After each sitting, a feast: pages, candlelight, stillness, its favourite, a finished book

• Every mana leaves a spark, and sparks buy furniture: a window with the real day or night, a bookshelf in the colours of your finished books, a cauldron, a telescope, fairy lights
• Stroke your familiar and it purrs; after midnight it sleeps
