Erinnerungspfade Android

Erinnerungspfade

The app provides information about places in Stuttgart's city and democratic history.

Features & Capabilities

The "Erinnerungspfade" app is a project by Lernort Geschichte (Learning Place of History), an institution of the Stuttgarter Jugendhaus gGmbH (Stuttgart Youth Center) in cooperation with the coordination of the Stuttgart Stolperstein initiatives. The app provides information about individual places that are important for remembering Stuttgart's city history. These include:
• Democracy Sites
• Colonial Traces
• Stolpersteine (Stolper Stones)
• National Socialism
• Forced Labor
• Gastarbeiter Sites
• Jewish History
• Queer History
• Right-wing, Racist, and Antisemitic Violence
• Street Names

Users can create their own places, which are then published after review. The app also offers the option of creating their own tours that connect some of these places. The discovery mode allows you to receive push notifications about nearby locations while walking through the city.
An interactive map shows all of these places, which can be filtered via a list. Clicking on the map provides brief information about the history, current use, and projects, as well as literature and links to the location. The biographies of the people with Stolpersteins are linked. If you like the place, you can share it or save it as a favorite!
The app closes a gap in the visibility of important places for a multi-perspective culture of remembrance in Stuttgart. It aims to provide everyone with easy access to information about Stuttgart's places of remembrance and brings together existing locations from various initiatives that use web apps. As the app is continuously expanded and updated, more locations and categories will be added in the future.

The content for some categories comes from various institutions, groups, or individuals:
• Stuttgart Stolperstein Initiatives: Over 1,050 Stolpersteine and biographies of the individual individuals, see also: www.stolpersteine-stuttgart.de
• Students of the History Institute at the University of Stuttgart: primarily sites of democracy, but also National Socialism, colonial traces, and Jewish history
• Forced Labor Working Group in Stuttgart: Sites of forced labor
• Web app History Online Stuttgart (GO-Stuttgart): National Socialism and street names
• Learning Center History and Markus Himmelsbach (Lindenmuseum): Colonial traces
• Learning Center History and Mandy Hildebrandt: Queer history
• Learning Center History with the help of the Stuttgart City Archives: Sites of guest workers

The app was developed in 2025 by the graphic agency Bad Wolf GmbH in cooperation with the programming office APK. The project is financially supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Stuttgart through the Coordination Office for Remembrance Culture.
