Animana Consult AI

Animana Consult AI is a clinical documentation assistant for veterinary teams using IDEXX Animana. It lives in a Chrome side panel next to your open patient file, reads the patient's signalment and history, and turns your shorthand findings into complete, professionally written clinical records — then fills them straight into Animana's consult fields with one click.

WHAT IT DOES

• Consultation notes — enter findings in a quick-fill examination grid and brief notes; get a structured record with history, findings, diagnosis and plan, written in professional clinical language and filled directly into Animana's consult fields.

• Vaccination visits — tick the vaccines you administered, and get a concise, standardised vaccination record including the calculated next-due date.

• Diagnostics — record clinical pathology, imaging, cytology, microbiology and genetic test findings in dedicated fields; they are woven into the note automatically.

• Patient history briefing — one click summarises the patient's Animana history into a structured overview: active problems, current medications, surgical history, vaccination status, lab results and clinical trends.

• External records — upload a PDF or photo of a record from another clinic and get a structured summary alongside the Animana history.

• Lab result analysis — upload IDEXX or other lab reports (PDF or image) and get every analyte extracted with reference ranges, flagged abnormalities, differentials and suggested next steps.

• Surgical notes — choose from built-in procedure templates (or create your own); anaesthetic medications, doses and suture materials are extracted automatically from the day's product entries in the patient history.

• Dental charting — a full interactive dental chart (canine and feline, Triadan numbering) with per-tooth scoring, an AI-generated dental report, and one-click export of the chart as a PNG straight into the patient's Animana attachments.

BRING YOUR OWN AI

The extension works with your own AI provider account — Anthropic (Claude) or Google (Gemini). Enter your API key once in Settings and switch providers with a single toggle. Your key is stored locally on your device only, and your data goes directly from your browser to the AI provider you chose — there is no middleman server and no account with us.

YOU STAY IN CONTROL

Every generated note appears in the side panel for your review before anything is filled into Animana. You can edit any field, regenerate, or fill fields individually. The AI is instructed never to invent medications, findings or treatments that are not supported by your inputs or the patient history — but as with any AI tool, the clinician remains responsible for verifying every record before filing.

EARLY RELEASE

Animana Consult AI is in active development and this is an early production release. It is being built and refined hands-on in daily small-animal practice, and features are added and improved continuously. You may occasionally encounter rough edges — feedback and bug reports are very welcome and directly shape what gets built next.

GOOD TO KNOW

• Requires an IDEXX Animana account and your own Anthropic or Google Gemini API key (pay-as-you-go with the provider; typical per-note cost is a fraction of a cent to a few cents depending on provider and note size). • The built-in vaccination schedule follows a common Dutch small-animal protocol (Nobivac range) — review next-due suggestions against your own clinic's protocol. • This extension is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by IDEXX Laboratories or Animana B.V. • Patient data is processed by the AI provider you configure (Anthropic or Google) solely to generate your requested note — see the privacy policy for details.
