Features & Capabilities

Living Chinese is a Chrome extension designed to make learning Chinese easy and enjoyable for non-Chinese speaking students in Hong Kong. Funded by the Language Fund and developed by the Open Knowledge Association, this app offers a unique approach by connecting Chinese words and sentences to real-life situations and stories, making memorization meaningful rather than rote.

The extension features 100 stories grouped into four major life themes — "Me & My Family", "School Life", "Everyday Life", and "Experience Learning" — suitable for elementary to junior high students. It offers three difficulty levels: Very Easy, Easy, and Medium, with diverse story formats including animations, comics, and picture books. The "Experience Learning" series encourages practical use of Chinese and enhances students’ sense of belonging to Hong Kong through culturally relevant content.
