AI Summary Firefox

AI Summary

Summarize the active tab using your own OpenAI-compatible API—selected text or the whole page. Your API key and settings stay in Firefox on this device; there is no extension backend.

Features & Capabilities

AI Summary helps you distill what you are reading: use a text selection or summarize the visible page in one click.

How it works • Choose Summarize selection or Summarize entire page in the toolbar popup. • The extension sends that text in a single HTTPS request to an OpenAI-style chat completions endpoint you configure (OpenAI, Groq, self-hosted, or any compatible URL). • Set Summary language, Style, and API configuration (JSON) in Settings—including your model and API key.

Privacy • No add-on author server: requests go only to the API URL you enter. • Settings (including the API key) are stored in browser storage on your device only. • Page content is used for the summary request and is not stored by the extension.

Good to know • You need your own API access from a provider you trust. • Copy puts the latest summary on the clipboard.

Is AI Summary Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

AI Summary requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

AI Summary is recently added, and hasn't been around long enough for us to gather enough data to accurately assess its risk level.
