User reviews

Users generally appreciate the AI Search add-on's integration of Perplexity AI into Firefox, especially its right-click search and side panel features, which enhance search experience without slowing down the browser. However, multiple users report unclear activation steps, permission issues, and the add-on icon not appearing or responding. Some wish for customization options such as font size and added functionalities like language support and text-to-speech. Despite a few interface and formatting complaints, overall feedback is positive with users valuing it as a useful search co-pilot alternative to other browsers.
Pros
  • Integrates Perplexity AI nicely within Firefox, including side panel support and setting it as the default search engine.
  • Provides convenient right-click search functionality for selected text.
  • Easy to activate and works immediately for many users without performance impact.
  • Offers a helpful search assistant alternative to Chrome, appreciated by users.
  • Well received for its intended functionality as a search co-pilot.
Cons
  • Lack of clear instructions or documentation leads to confusion about activation and permissions.
  • Some users experience the add-on icon not appearing or being unresponsive, possibly due to conflicts or Firefox versions.
  • No options to customize font size, box size, or interface appearance, impacting readability.
  • Additional requested features include language support, text-to-speech, and focused/fact-check search options not currently available.
  • There is some dissatisfaction with the complexity of the search bar interface and font formatting issues.

Gave it 4 even though I have not fully tested. Wanted to get this off my chest. I never knew what the top box was called, because i avoid it like the plague. Some young programmer decided to make that box (bar) multi purpose. I am fairly sure he did not run it past an Analyst. You have enlightened me as to it's name - Awesome. I do not find that bar awesome. And now you are adding more complexity to that flippin bar

Extension safety

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

AI Search requires very minimum permissions.

Risk impact analysis details
