addy.io - Protect Your Real Email With Aliases

By: addy.io
Open-source Anonymous Email Forwarding. Protect your real email address by using a different email alias for every site. Quickly and easily view, search, manage and create new aliases in just a few clicks using the addy.io browser extension.

Features & Capabilities

addy.io (AnonAddy) is an open-source browser extension for anonymous email forwarding. It enables you to view, search, manage, and create aliases quickly, with login via your addy.io account or an API key, and an option to switch to your self-hosted instance when needed.

Note: The free plan restricts you to 10 active shared-domain aliases and 10MB of monthly bandwidth. You can still generate unlimited standard aliases on-the-fly (e.g., anything@username.anonaddy.com) without using the extension. The project is open-source and source code is available on GitHub.

User Reviews

Users broadly praise addy.io as a privacy-focused, fast, and easy-to-use email aliasing tool. The browser extension streamlines alias management, and the service is robust, feature-rich, and open-source with a generous free tier. Support is responsive, especially for questions. However, several reviews note that the documentation is incomplete and not beginner-friendly, the product can be overkill for casual users, and there are friction points like API-key setup and manual theme switching. Overall, it excels for power users who value control and anonymity.

  • Provides strong privacy and anonymity via aliases, a core selling point praised by users.
  • Fast, easy-to-use browser extension for managing aliases.
  • Robust, feature-rich and open-source with a generous free tier.
  • Responsive support and quick assistance from the developer.
  • Appeals to power users with advanced features around domains and APIs.
Cons
  • Documentation is incomplete or hard to follow, making it less friendly for new users.
  • Not ideal for casual users; it can be overkill for simple spam combat.
  • Requires API key generation rather than OAuth login, adding friction.
  • Extension doesn't auto-switch to system themes; manual light/dark switching is needed.
  • Requests for minor improvements in UI and onboarding.
