Features & Capabilities

Calendarium

A rich New Tab & homepage widget: date, moon phase, sun times, zodiac, name days, holidays, folk sayings, alternate calendars, and optional Wikipedia "on this day" content. Also available as a toolbar popup and full-page view.

Calendarium turns your New Tab page (and, optionally, your homepage) into a glanceable daily almanac:

  • Date & time, with day-of-year, ISO week number, and month/New Year countdown
  • Moon phase, age, moonrise/moonset
  • Sunrise & sunset for your location plus up to 3 extra cities
  • Western & Chinese zodiac
  • Name days, national holidays, folk-calendar sayings, and seasonal periods
  • Alternate calendar dates: Julian, Hebrew, Islamic, Persian
  • Optional Wikipedia "on this day" births/deaths/events and article of the day (only fetched if you enable it — requests a separate permission)
  • Light/dark theme (follows your system, or set manually) and independent background customization (solid color, gradient, or your own image URL)
  • Optional search box using your default search engine
Every section is individually toggleable from the options page. Besides the New Tab/homepage override, Calendarium is also available as a one-click toolbar popup and as a standalone full-page view (right-click the toolbar button → "Open full view in a new tab") — so it's useful even if you don't want it taking over your New Tab page.

This is an open-source port (GPL-3.0) of the calendarium@kami911 Cinnamon desktop widget to a modern Firefox WebExtension — all astronomical/calendar calculations are the same well-tested algorithms from the original, just running in the browser.

Is Calendarium Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Calendarium requires very minimum permissions.

Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

Calendarium is recently added, and hasn't been around long enough for us to gather enough data to accurately assess its risk level.
