User reviews

Users appreciate Export Tabs for its simplicity, reliability, and ability to quickly export many browser tabs to HTML files, making tab management and browser transitions easier. However, users are concerned about the new extensive permission requirements mandated by Chrome's Manifest V3, occasional malfunctioning of the HTML download button and mail export feature, and the lack of direct tab transfer or enhanced features like saving tab groups. Despite these issues, the extension remains a favored tool for efficiently handling multiple tabs.
Pros
  • Simple and easy to use interface
  • Effectively exports and saves browser tabs as HTML files
  • Reliable and fast, saving significant time compared to manual methods
  • Lightweight and focused without unnecessary features or clutter
  • Works well for backing up and transferring tabs across browsers
Cons
  • Sudden requirement for extensive permissions like 'Read and change all your data on all websites' due to Manifest V3, causing user concern
  • The 'Download as HTML' button occasionally stops working
  • Mail export functionality does not work reliably for some users
  • Does not directly transfer tabs to a new browser, requiring manual reopening of saved links
  • Limited functionality with non-standard URLs and lack of features like choosing save location or exporting tab group names

Great extension. Got slightly spooked by the sudden new requirement for "Read and change all your data on all websites", but after looking into it (and the source code, which the developer links to on GitHub) turns out this has been forced by Google as part of the manifest v3 requirements. The extension simply can't read tab URLs for any tab other than the current tab, and any other tab for which it has access - getting that access results in the "Read and change all your data on all websites" warning. Manifest v2 extensions have started to be permanently disabled on a rolling basis since late March, so this change was obviously necessary.

why does it require "Read and change all your data on all websites" all the sudden? this should need only the built‑in tabs API, not full host access. This new requirement "smells" a lot.

Was reliable and invaluble for each time I had to dump 600 tabs, well I'm done with chrome now, last time I am manually doing tab dumping.

Extension safety

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Export Tabs requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
