VLC 4 YouTube (beta) is a Chrome extension that enhances YouTube video playback. Just by clicking the extension icon or pressing Alt+V, you can open any YouTube video in VLC, which uses fewer resources and can boost volume up to 200 percent. Note: Requires VLC 2.0 or above with activated http interface. Further features and improvements are in development.

Used to like this extension and use it from time to time, but it breaks YouTube Music Premium (makes it skip songs and play ads despite being on Premium). Had to remove it.
