2024-10-08 | Fant Asyscifi | en | We've been long time users after using FOundry and finding the networking clunky as all get out unless you pay for a server - so prepare for the bias of someone who wishes Foundry was as awesome as it can be (I still want it to be, really! It's a dream in theory :D ) First and foremost, this thing is truly free - no paygates or premium features - you get it all and it works straight away. No network settings oh and prep time is incredibly fast compared to Foundry One of the best things for someone who has run 5 campaigns on it is that I can get a player up to speed in 15 minutes. Tops! (Hell, I've been able to get someone up to the basics in 5!) When you DM you don't want something that ADDS to your workload. The best reason to grab it? Picture this: Imagine someone say out of the blue, let's play DnD tonight and you have nothing prepped... Within 10 minutes you can have say 3 scenes ready to go from the FREE templates - oh they are all free. There's no paygate here, my awesome fellow DMS, they are ALL free. Want to use a map from an artist you bought a map from on Patreon? Easy peasy. Upload it to Dropbox and click then dropbox from the dropdown tfor the scene map - 60 seconds later you have a map. And yes, you can do that with spooky sounds and mood music but the Discord music bots are better for music ;) Oh and no more "your modules need to be updated" followed by a module creator who hasn't/won't update the Foundry module, which means you're staring at the screen thinking 'well damn, here goes another theatre of the mind session'. The downside is it's only for DnD but they advertise just that so it does what's on the package ;) Yes I became a fanboi - if foundry fixes itself I'll swap for big campaigns but nothing beats AboveVTT for the quick stuff and Foundry has a long way to go (without paying for a server) Hope that tale of AboveVTT helps just one DM :)

2024-07-22 | Jonah Harris Martin | en | This is the best VTT out there for me. The integration with DND beyond is great. Only 4 stars instead of 5 as players tend to need to refresh a couple of times in a 3 hour session which causes friction. But it's free and excellent.
2024-07-20 | Arclein | en | Great extension. As of July, the extension was broken by D&D Beyond because of a change in their site programming, but the discord community has been incredibly helpful and the devs actively release betas to fix these issues. If you're having problems with the app, before review bombing, maybe take a little effort and try to troubleshoot your issue.
2024-07-20 | Chris Brevard | en | Can't get any maps to load be it google drive, imgur, or dropbox. Can't bring up maps from the module straight from dnd beyond. Complete trash
2024-07-15 | Brian Weatherley | en | I own Foundry, and I have used Owlbear, but this VTT does absolutely everything I need and my players can connect to it easily with their laptops. We migrated to VTT during the pandemic, but even though we play around the table again now, we still use the VTT because we like it. I do recommend you do an export every time you do a lot of work then store that to the cloud. In case your PC dies, that's the only way to get what you have back. I use a lot of the stuff from Forgotten Adventures and can simply build the details of my maps right in the browser by adding map assets as tokens. Easily my favorite VTT.
