2024-10-16 | Steve Hardiman | en | Bravo on this early draft of a promising extension. A few observations: 1. Quick and easy; 2. Dialog exchange needs to be snappier to eliminate unnatural lulls. The two voices sound like they are auditioning for a podcast host job by reading from a script, but each is focused on their own words, not the other "person" they are in "conversation" with. So the exchange is stilted and lacks "flow," which makes all the faux-organic pitter-patter, interjections, and modest humor attempts fall flat. No shade, though. Uncanny Valley is a precarious chasm to cross; 3. Maybe just me and the source material I chose, but the "hosts" sound so young and fond of interjections like "totally!" that it's grating. I guess the style is fine for a review of a taco-truck menu, but it's very incongruous with serious news stories or academic articles. There should either be a choice of hosts or a clearer vision from the developers about who the audience is for this extension. Personally, I would stop using it if these uber-smart, very youthful "hosts" are always trying to "relate" to me with awkward asides and interjections that undermine the nature of the source material. I know one-size-fits-all isn't practical, but the current option is limited because it doesn't sound very credible for denser articles—which I would suggest are the kind of thing many users would want this tool for. The voices seem better suited for lightweight fodder that you would not need a tool like this to digest in the first place. It's all about the tone. Just my two cents. Keep at it. Very cool AI space growing here and very nice to have it as a browser extension that can be used on the fly. Quick comparison: Notbook.LM is several steps ahead of this extension, so a lot can be learned from what it gets right (e.g., tone, conversational flow, and "hosts" posing questions to each other and "topping" each other's answers to make the dialog more engaging). Those improved fundamentals make its generated conversation sound more realistic. Keep at it! This extension is off to a great start.
2024-10-14 | Greg America | en | Wow. This will give you an experience akin to Google Lab's hit product NotebookLM DeepDive podcasts. The extension works well. I've only been testing 5 mins on Kiwi browser which supports extensions even on a phone app. The voices are very credible. Not quite as good as Deep Dive but fairly close. Initial results are that it will indeed produce a credible podcast adaption of any page you point it at. Well done. Incredible achievement
