2024-10-31 | Uri Bertocchi | en | The concept behind this app is truly excellent, and I've been intrigued by it since its initial release. It has progressed from a pretty useless MVP to something better. It still has a long way to go, but it's nice to see that it is advancing. Pronunciations still need to be improved, and there is no auto-scroll in the PDF viewer. Also, it completely skips the figures and tables, which frequently have very important information in their descriptions (I don't mean the literal figure or table, just the note section). The most annoying thing to me is that the titles are read as part of the first sentence; in my perspective, this is low-hanging fruit in terms of improving reading quality.
2024-10-12 | Guillaume LE GULUDEC | en | I just tried it out today. The voice is very natural-sounding and pleasant. It correctly filters out irrelevant information such as references and notes etc. However, at least from what I experienced on the papers that I converted, the produced audio suffers from some issues that made it hard to understand the structure both at the sentence level and at the section level. For instance, it seems to systematically treat the hyphen as a long dash, thus marking a pause in the middle of compound word, which is very annoying as it breaks the flow of the sentence. On the other hand, it does not mark a pause after reading the title of a section, jumping directly to the first sentence of that section. It also fails to make appearant that something is between parentheses, so it's difficult to know what the main point is and what is mere detail. For those reasons unless these issues are addressed, I don't think I will use it past the trial period as the price is rather high

2023-03-06 | Joseph McHale | I tried it and it didn't click with me, so I cancelled the free trial. Due to a mistake I was still charged, but upon contacting them they agreed to refund in a very timely manner. Still needs work on the backend, but with the speed they responded I have confidence the product will improve! May try again in a while, the general premise is very useful. |
