The "Phone as Metal Detector" Chrome extension empowers your Android device to function as a precise metal detector by leveraging its built-in magnetic field sensor. Almost all Android phones are equipped with sensors that detect changes in magnetic fields, enabling you to find metals such as iron, steel, or gold right from your phone.

The app works effectively even on older devices. It monitors the magnetic field levels measured in micro Tesla (µT), where the natural field is around 49 µT. When a metal object is near, this value spikes and is visually represented on a graph within the app. Note that in some phone models, the magnetic sensor is located at the bottom of the device, so checking readings by holding objects near the bottom is recommended. This innovative tool offers a convenient, portable, and easy-to-use metal detection experience without the need for additional hardware.
