MatchWatch is a free film match app for couples, flatmates and families. Everyone in the group swipes through films and TV shows on their own phone. When the group agrees on a title, that is a match. That is what you are watching, and the app makes rather more of a fuss about it than you would.

Left to your own devices you will pick something safe and quietly resent it. As is tradition.

Yes, it is the swipe thing. The difference being that you are swiping with someone who has already watched you spend a Sunday on the sofa in yesterday's clothes, so there is nothing left to present.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Sign in with Apple, Google, or your email.
2. Tick the streaming services you actually pay for.
3. Start a group. Up to six people: your partner, your flatmates, the whole household.
4. Everyone swipes. Right for yes, left for no.
5. The first title the group agrees on is your match.

WHAT YOU GET
Availability badges, so you can see which of your own UK streaming services has each title: Netflix, iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, Disney+, Prime Video and NOW. The BBC dramas, the ITVX box sets, the Channel 4 documentaries you keep meaning to start. You only swipe on things you can actually watch.
A shared watchlist the whole group can add to.
Picks for tonight, for when the takeaway is twenty minutes out and what to watch is still undecided.
A nudge for whoever has not swiped yet, and a push notification when a match lands.
It works offline. Carry on swiping with no signal and it syncs when you are back.

WHAT IT IS NOT
MatchWatch is a decide-what-to-watch app, not a watch-together one. It does not play anything for you, and it does not sync playback between two houses, which is what a watch-party tool is for. It is the bit between opening five apps and pressing play.

FOR THE WHOLE HOUSEHOLD
Groups go up to six, so it is a household film app as much as a couples one. Family film night, the flat, the two of you. Everyone gets a swipe, and everyone can see what the group has already matched on.

Or the six of you could end up on Coronation Street again and quietly discover you have opinions about it. That is also a result.

THE HONEST BIT
