This Saturday, November 24th is international Buy Nothing Day. It’s a day when people are asked not to shop for a day, and instead to reflect on the consumption choices they make. To stop and think about what we buy, and why. Because making more considered choices about our consumption leaves us happier and healthier, part of stronger communities, in a more equitable world.

To assist, we've created the Buy Nothing Day Ad Blocker, an extension for the Chrome browser. Once downloaded, it will block online ads appearing on all the web pages you visit during Buy Nothing Day - from midnight Friday through to midnight Saturday. The remainder of the time, web pages will be unmodified. For just one day, try experiencing a little less advertising, and thinking a little more about what you consume and its effect on yourself and other people.

For many of us, consumption has reached excessive proportions. Australians have the highest level of personal debt in the world. We want to support people being more aware of their actions, and making better choices. We want to foster the important discussion about sustainable, ethical and personally positive consumption. For this reason we encourage you to to stop and think about your own consumption for a day, without being told to buy anything from anyone.
