I love the internet, as we all do, but it does consume roughly 1 percent of global energy.

Globemallow Dev View is designed to help developers, and other members of organizations see how their websites can become more sustainable in an effort to decrease their internet carbon footprint.

In the fight against human induced climate change it is important that we understand how our website are operating, and what metrics you and your organization can focus on to limit the energy usage of your website.

Everybody can make a change that affects energy consumption of the internet. Follow internet design best practices, and try to push for your organization to standardize on them.

Globemallow Dev View also uses the companion web extension: Globemallow in an effort to show users their energy consumption, and provide them with a fact so they are aware of what their energy usage equates to.

Try to only use external font libraries when absolutely necessary
Ensure images are being lazy-loaded on your site
Try reducing image byte size when possible, or reduce the amount of images altogether

Globemallow uses the US Academic Grading System. A+ for a good sustainability website, F for websites that could use a little work from a sustainability perspective.

Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Chrome extension.
