Privacy Badger

Privacy Badger automatically learns to block invisible trackers.

Privacy Badger is a Chrome extension that automatically learns to block invisible trackers on websites, enhancing your online privacy without any manual setup. It sends the Global Privacy Control signal to opt you out of data selling and a Do Not Track signal to request companies not to track your activity. If trackers ignore these signals, Privacy Badger learns to block them effectively.

Beyond blocking, Privacy Badger replaces trackers that provide useful functions like video players or comment widgets with click-to-activate placeholders, ensuring functionality while protecting privacy. It also removes outgoing link click tracking on platforms like Facebook and Google, with ongoing improvements to privacy protection. For support or to report issues, users can reach out via email or GitHub.

Somehow I still get adds - especially on YouTube. Then there is the problem regarding the User Interface. None of the labels make sense. I really don't know what it means when the app says This can read and change site data. I mean what is this telling me? I'm no computer expert, how am I supposed to know? The app needs to be set up with labels like "Turn off ads". Real simple. Programmers think everyone knows what they know. I don't.

Extension safety

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Privacy Badger requires a lot of sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that an Edge add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Edge add-on reputation on Edge Add-on Store, the amount of time the Edge add-on has been around, and other signals about the Edge add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing an Edge add-on.

Privacy Badger has earned a good reputation and can be trusted.
