## Description

LinkedIn Auto Comment Helper – User Guide

A lightweight Firefox extension that drafts tailored comments for LinkedIn posts using your OpenAI API key. It reads the visible text of a post, generates a concise, context-aware reply, opens your comment editor, and inserts the text. You review and press Send.

What it does

Detects LinkedIn posts as you scroll.
Adds a small “AI Comment” button on the top-right corner of each post (appears on hover).
Generates a comment using your chosen OpenAI model and your custom prompt.
Opens your comment box and inserts the generated text. You manually send.
Works on sponsored/promoted posts too. Skips media-only posts with no meaningful text.
Optional hotkey: Alt+Shift+G generates for the post in the center of your screen.

Setup

1) Install the extension.
2) Click the toolbar icon (pin it from the puzzle menu if needed).
3) In the popup:
- Paste your OpenAI API key.
- Choose a model (e.g., gpt-4o-mini).
- Pick Max lines (e.g., 5).
- Optional: paste a Custom System Prompt to control tone/behavior.
- Click Save.
4) Visit linkedin.com, refresh the page.

Tip: You can also open the Options page (about:addons → Extensions → this extension → Options) to edit the same settings. The popup and Options stay in sync.

How to use

Hover a post. Click the “AI Comment” button in the post’s top-right corner.
The button will:
Open your comment editor (if closed).
Generate a comment in parallel.
Insert the text into your comment field.
Review/edit if needed, then press Send.

Keyboard shortcut

Alt+Shift+G: Generates a comment for the post nearest the center of the viewport and inserts it.

Settings in the popup

API Key: Your OpenAI key (stored locally).
Model: Choose an OpenAI chat model compatible with your key.
Max lines: Caps the comment length.
Custom System Prompt: Optional advanced control over style/tone. If empty, a sensible default prompt is used.

Permissions and privacy

Site access: *.linkedin.com to read visible post text and insert into your editor.
Storage: Saves settings locally (API key, model, prompt). No data is sent anywhere except directly to OpenAI via your key.
The extension never auto-clicks Send; you stay in control.

Notes and limitations

The extension relies on LinkedIn’s current HTML structure. If the AI button doesn’t appear, refresh the page or scroll a bit to let it rescan. If LinkedIn changes the layout, update may be required.
Media-only posts (image/video with no text) are skipped.
Avoid rapidly clicking generate on many posts; your OpenAI account may rate-limit requests.
Errors show briefly on the button. Hover to see the tooltip message.

Troubleshooting

No AI button on posts:
Hard refresh (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+R) after saving settings.
Confirm the extension shows as Allowed on linkedin.com.
“Missing API key” or “Unauthorized”:
Re-open the popup, re-paste a valid key, Save, refresh LinkedIn.
“Model not found” or parameter errors:
Switch the model in the popup, Save, refresh LinkedIn.
“No editor”:
Click the post’s Comment button once, then click AI Comment again.
Still stuck:
Open the page console (Cmd/Ctrl+Opt/Alt+K) to view “[AI-Comment] …” logs, or share the error text with support.

Publishing and sharing

You can install from AMO (Firefox Add-ons) if listed, or the developer can distribute an unlisted, signed build. Users simply install and configure their own API keys in the popup.

This extension keeps your workflow simple: click, review, send.
