## Description

Strongbox is an open-source password manager that supports KeePass and Password Safe formats. It stores all your passwords behind a single master password and unlocks with Face ID/Touch ID, Passkeys, a PIN (with a Duress PIN), or a YubiKey. It emphasizes privacy and security with robust cryptography and isolated in-app attachments for sensitive documents.

It includes powerful search and password generation (including Diceware), password auditing for weak entries, cloud and local storage options (iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV, SFTP), and easy import/export. The app is Freemium with optional Pro features and a 90-day trial, plus TOTP codes, auto-clear clipboard, and flexible storage and syncing choices.

## Review summary

Reviews praise Autofill reliability, solid cross-device syncing (especially iCloud), and easy import with a user-friendly interface. However, recurring issues include crashes after updates, persistent upgrade prompts, and licensing/Face ID problems across devices. Privacy concerns about storing/transmitting passwords also surface alongside trust issues following a developer sale. Overall, Strongbox is feature-rich and well-integrated with Apple devices when stable, but stability and licensing issues dampen the experience for some users.

### Pros

- Autofill works smoothly and reliably across Safari and apps.
- Strong cross-device syncing (iCloud and local Wi‑Fi) keeps data in sync.
- Easy to import data and use, with a user-friendly interface.
- Feature-rich with useful security options (support for hardware security keys and passkeys).
- Positive, responsive support and ongoing updates within the Apple ecosystem.

### Cons

- Frequent crashes after updates (crashes opening or decrypting databases).
- Ongoing upgrade prompts to buy Pro despite already having a Pro license.
- Face ID/licensing parity issues across devices (iPhone not recognizing Pro license; upgrade needed to retain Face ID).
- Privacy concerns about passwords being stored or transmitted, and trust issues after the developer sale.
