## Description

LastQuake is a free, ad-free mobile app created by seismologists at the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). It provides real-time earthquake alerts and gathers eyewitness testimonies to rapidly estimate effects and warn populations. As the official app of EMSC, it relies on public participation to improve disaster response and safety.

Your involvement matters: LastQuake is a citizen science project—the contributions of users help refine our understanding of quake effects and strengthen preparedness and disaster response. Key features include real-time information, customizable notifications (destructive earthquakes, earthquakes near you), access to comments, photos, and videos from eyewitnesses, and easy information sharing via social media. The app also offers an SMS service to notify loved ones and post-earthquake safety tips. What’s new includes an interactive felt map, notification testing, voice-synthesized alerts, copy-paste for comments, language support, and ongoing bug fixes.

## Review summary

Users consistently praise LastQuake for timely, localized earthquake alerts and educational usefulness, especially the ability to customize monitored areas and report felt events. However, multiple reviews note serious downsides: a severely degraded UI/UX after a recent update, with clutter, overlapping elements, and unreadable graphics; maps and lists that are hard to interact with or lack up-to-date data for near-me events; and occasional gaps in data coverage in certain regions. Overall, the app remains valuable for alerts and data, but many users want a return to a cleaner interface and more reliable displays.

### Pros

- Timely and relevant earthquake alerts and information.
- Customizable monitored areas and user reporting of felt events.
- No paywall or gated features; access to core functionality.
- Useful for education and teaching about earthquakes.
- Rapid data updates and informative content.

### Cons

- Severely degraded UI/UX after a recent update, with clutter and usability issues.
- Data display and map interaction problems, including unreadable graphics, overlapping UI, and maps that are hard to use or non-functional.
- Inconsistent data coverage in some regions, with near-me lists or latest quakes sometimes missing or not up-to-date.
