• Swell height, period, and direction — shaped by each site's exposure and shelter 
• Wind and gusts 
• Tide state and timing from the nearest NOAA station, in US waters 
• Ocean current and water temperature 
• Recent rain and chop, for an honest visibility estimate

Never learned to read a marine forecast? Every rating breaks down into plain-English factor cards — how the swell is hitting this particular site, what the wind is doing to the surface, where the tide is — so you can see which one is the problem today.

STRAIGHT WITH YOU 
The rating comes from a fixed, published scoring recipe over live forecast data — including hard stops for thunderstorms, big surf, and strong current. Tap "The raw numbers" on any spot to see every reading behind the score.
