Doodle Kolam mixes the calming, playful habit of doodling with the traditional art of kolam. On your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you sketch freestyle lines on a customisable dot grid — no pressure to be perfect, just a quiet creative flow that is good for the mind and enjoyable for its own sake.

Doodling is calming and fun. It slows you down, keeps your hands busy, and lets ideas appear without overthinking. Doodle Kolam takes that feeling and roots it in kolam: dots as a gentle guide, loops and borders that grow into patterns, colour that fills a closed shape when you are ready. As you draw, you practise pattern recognition and visual agility — spotting symmetry, repeating motifs, and closing paths — in a way that feels like play rather than a drill.

WHETHER YOU ARE LEARNING OR PRACTISING
Open the welcome kolam for a finished example, then start your own. Change the grid size, show or hide dots, and choose a rice-flour or charcoal ground. Traditional colour swatches sit beside a custom colour picker, and stroke width scales with your grid so lines stay balanced when you resize.

DRAW, FILL, AND EXPLORE
• Pen — freestyle strokes that sit cleanly on the grid
• Eraser — scrub away parts of a stroke without disturbing the dots
• Fill — tap inside a closed loop to flood colour up to the stroke walls
• Pan — move around a zoomed canvas with the hand tool, two-finger drag, or trackpad scroll
• Pinch to zoom, with toolbar zoom controls and Reset View when you want to return to the fit

Try a tiny grid for a short, calming doodle, or a denser grid when you want a longer pattern to sink into. The joy is in the making as much as the finished kolam.

SHAPE YOUR DOT GRID
Set horizontal and vertical dot counts for simple practice grids or denser compositions. In Custom Dots, tap cells on or off, or use fill shapes (rectangular, square, diamond, plus) to select a pattern quickly. Save named layouts and reuse them. When you change the grid, existing strokes can be re-fitted so your drawing stays aligned in grid space.

COLOUR, GROUND, AND DETAIL
Pick rice flour for a classic light feel, or charcoal for a darker stage. Choose black, white, vermilion, turmeric, green, or any custom colour. Adjust eraser and fill settings from the More menu. Hide dots for a cleaner finished look, or leave them visible while you construct the design.

EXPORT AND SHARE
Export PNG or JPEG when you are ready to share. Optionally include the dots. Use the system share sheet to save to Photos, Files, or another app. Your library stays on the device — create, rename, and delete designs whenever you like.
