## Description

Scan a label's ingredient list for a first-pass check of halal/vegan/vegetarian fit, Japan's 29 labeled allergens, and food additives.

Scanil is built for food labels sold in Japan (written in Japanese). Photograph the ingredient list and get a first-pass check of dietary fit, allergens, and food additives against Japan's own food labeling standards — not the US FDA's or any other country's. This is not a general allergen scanner for US products: Japan's 29 labeled allergen items differ from the US major food allergens (for example, sesame).

WHAT IT DOES
- Screens for halal / vegan / vegetarian fit (a result of "no unsuitable ingredients found" is not an official religious certification)
- Detects Japan's 29 labeled allergen items (9 mandatory + 20 recommended) and distinguishes "contains," "may contain," and "unable to determine"
- Cross-references a database of 736 food additives for classification and usage information
- Displays ingredient lists and product names in both Japanese and English

HOW TO USE
1. Photograph the ingredient list on the back of the package (read by AI)
2. Review the result
3. Tap any item for a detailed explanation

IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ
- This app provides reference information for a first-pass screening only. It is not an official certification or a medical diagnosis.
- Allergen coverage is limited to the 29 items defined under Japan's Food Labeling Standards (9 mandatory + 20 recommended). Labeling the recommended 20 is voluntary for manufacturers, so an allergen may be present even if not listed. Facility cross-contamination warnings are also not covered by the screening.
- Reading accuracy has limits. Always confirm the final answer against the label on the actual package.
- Reading the ingredient list uses AI image analysis (the label photo is sent to an external service). See the Privacy Policy for details.

LANGUAGES
Japanese, English

USAGE
The app is free to use, with a limit on the number of scans. If you exceed the limit or want to see more history, a premium plan is available (auto-renewing subscription; price and cancellation details available in-app).
