## Description

Voicebraid is first-species counterpoint as a puzzle: a fixed melody is given, and you shape the voice above it.

SIXTY STUDIES, SIX MODES
The cantus firmi rotate through Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, and Aeolian, in four melodic shapes and lengths from 8 to 12 notes — every study different, every study answerable.

HEAR IT
Play the cantus alone, or both voices together, at any moment. The audition uses a plain synthesizer tone; what you are listening for is the intervals.

A VERDICT ON EVERY NOTE
- The interval against the cantus, named: minor 3rd, perfect 5th, tritone
- The motion type at every step: contrary, oblique, similar, parallel
- Every rule broken, at the note where it broke: dissonance, parallel or direct perfects, leaps beyond a fifth, unrecovered leaps, range breaks, weak openings and endings
- Contrary motion is rewarded where you find it

LEARN THE RULES
A written primer — eight short chapters — explains exactly what the evaluator enforces and why: consonance, perfect versus imperfect, the parallel-perfect ban, motion, leaps and recovery, beginnings and endings, and the modes.
