Each sitting you log lays down a layer, the way a season lays down a ring in a tree. Read a novel in one long night and its spine is a single unbroken pane of colour. Fight through one over four months and you can see every band, every seam, every week it sat closed on the nightstand. A book you struggled with looks like a book you struggled with — and no other reading app will show you that.

Nothing in the picture is decoration. The thickness of a layer is how much you read. Its depth is how long you sat there. The seams are the days you were away. It is your reading, drawn.
