## Description

Explore, document, and help conserve Michigan’s amphibians and reptiles with the Michigan Herp Atlas app.

The Michigan Herp Atlas is a statewide community science initiative developed in collaboration with partners to collect valuable data on amphibian and reptile species throughout Michigan. Whether you are a professional biologist, educator, naturalist, student, or outdoor enthusiast, your observations can help support conservation and research efforts across the state.

Using the app, users can:
 - Submit amphibian and reptile observations directly from the field
 - Upload photos and location information
 - Help document species distribution and habitat use
 - Contribute records that support conservation planning and scientific research
 - Assist in identifying areas of road mortality, habitat fragmentation, and other conservation concerns
 - Learn about Michigan’s native reptiles and amphibians

Observation records submitted through the Michigan Herp Atlas help inform wildlife management decisions and contribute to planning and species protection efforts by USFWS, MDNR, and EGLE. Data is also integrated into Michigan’s Natural Heritage Database to help better protect and manage these critical species.

The app also supports broader conservation initiatives, including Best Management Practices (BMPs) designed to reduce impacts to amphibians and reptiles and improve habitat protection throughout Michigan.

Every observation matters. By contributing your sightings, you are helping build a better understanding of Michigan’s incredible herpetofauna and supporting long-term conservation efforts for future generations.

Protecting wildlife through science, collaboration, and community engagement.
