## Description

TownsFolk invites you to lead a group of settlers into the unknown and build a thriving colony amid mystery and danger. Manage scarce resources—Food, Gold, Faith, and Production—clear fog to explore the unknown, and face disasters, wild animals, and tough moral choices. Five factions offer distinct strengths and stories to shape your town’s fate.

Features include roguelite strategy with new challenges each run, a Skirmish Mode for standalone survival, puzzle challenges for rewards, and a pixel-art world with atmospheric music. The game emphasizes deep, minimalist gameplay and weekly challenge modes with leaderboards. It’s free to start, with a one-time in-app purchase to unlock the full Campaign and customize Skirmish settings for endless replayability.

## Review summary

TownsFolk is praised for its challenging, Civ-like strategy and strong replay value, with updates adding depth. However, it faces repeated criticisms over paywalls, RNG-driven balance, and a range of bugs and usability issues. It's a compelling time-sink for strategy fans, but can be too difficult or unfriendly to new players, especially when payments, randomness, or stability hinder progress.

### Pros

- Challenging and deep strategy/puzzle gameplay that keeps you thinking.
- High replayability with hours of engaging play; a strong time sink.
- Civ/strategy vibe with rich building and management systems.
- Regular updates and new content (puzzles, factions, weekly challenges) that add depth.
- Good value for money; the base game offers substantial content for a modest price.

### Cons

- Paywalls and locked content after purchase; additional purchases unlock core features.
- RNG-heavy balance that can produce frustrating, unwinnable starts and punishing early game.
- Bugs and stability issues (crashes, black screen) plus cloud sync problems and data inaccuracies.
- Clunky mechanics and design choices (conquest maps feel redundant; some systems feel pointless).
- Difficulty/pacing can be too harsh for some players with limited difficulty options.
