## Description

DSPhoto Backup is a Chrome extension that automatically backs up your photos and videos to your Synology NAS. It supports DSM 6 and DSM 7, runs in the background for seamless sync, and uses end-to-end encryption to protect your credentials. Your data stays on your device and your NAS, with privacy-first design (no tracking and no ads).

It also lets you browse and manage NAS files from your device, preview media, upload and download between your device and the NAS, and perform batch operations. The Local Storage Cleaner helps identify large files, duplicates, and clutter to free up space, while supporting common formats (HEIC, RAW, JPEG, MP4, MOV) and preserving EXIF and GPS data. Connect anywhere via QuickConnect, direct IP/host, or DDNS, with automatic reconnection.

## Rankings

- #81,795 — Overall
- #36 — tabs backup & restore

## Review summary

Users like the app for its UI and ability to back up photos to a Synology NAS and free up device storage. However, reliability is a major problem: backups stop or error out, background operation is inconsistent, and authentication/IP-block issues occur. Brand trust and NAS compatibility concerns, pricing, and file-name handling further mar the experience. Overall, the app is valued for NAS integration but requires fixes to reliability and backend/authentication flows.

### Pros

- Automatic background backups to a Synology NAS
- Easy-to-use UI and robust backup features for NAS integration
- Backups help free up phone storage by offloading photos to NAS
- Generally strong capability for photo backup to Synology NAS

### Cons

- Backups frequently fail or stop syncing, with cryptic error messages
- Background backups often require the app to stay open or foreground, not reliably running in the background on some devices
- Frequent authentication issues, poor 2FA handling, and IP blocking after repeated logins
- Brand/trust and compatibility concerns: not Synology-developed, compatibility with certain NAS/DMS versions and refunds/pricing reported as problems
- File naming issues leading to duplicates (lowercase/uppercase name handling); desire to preserve original file names
