## Description

To The Trenches is a retro-style WW1 RTS where environmental objects can be set ablaze. Lead your army through gritty trench warfare with procedurally generated battlefields, brutal artillery, and offline play. Command specialized units—Sharpshooters, Flame Troopers, Sentries, Trench Raiders and Medics—backed by armored vehicles and planes to swing the tide of battle.

Choose authentic factions such as Germany, France, Britain and Austria-Hungary, each with unique strengths. Progress through the Officer Tree to upgrade your army and unlock devastating weapons, while dilemmas and morale management shape resources and performance. With variable weather and battlefield conditions, no two campaigns are the same.

## Review summary

Players broadly praise To The Trenches for its fun, accessible WW1 gameplay, depth from multiple nations and progression, and satisfying explosions. The game shines when the core experience clicks and the community and developer responsiveness enhance post-launch support. However, reviewers flag drawbacks: a heavy paywall that locks most features behind a premium version and an in-game economy that makes upgrades and bonds slow; repetitive battles and limited variety over time; balance and AI issues in harder modes including spawn-kill and problematic enemy behavior; and persistent bugs or connectivity problems that hamper play. Overall, high-potential but with paywall and balance caveats.

### Pros

- Fun, accessible WW1 gameplay that is easy to learn.
- Depth and variety from multiple nations and ongoing progression.
- Satisfying explosions and a cinematic feel.
- One-time premium price is worth it and avoids microtransactions.
- Developer responsiveness and community engagement (suggestions implemented).

### Cons

- Heavy paywall/limited content behind premium.
- Repetitive battles and slow progression.
- Balance and AI issues in harder modes (spawn kills, difficult enemies).
- In-game economy grind and expensive upgrades / bonds.
- Bugs and connectivity problems affecting play (paramedics bug, gunner bug, online issues).
