## Description

THX tune-up is an interactive app that guides you through calibrating your display and speakers. It provides video tests and tutorials to help you verify aspect ratios, brightness, contrast, color, and tint, as well as audio checks for speaker assignment and phase across 2-channel and 5.1 setups.

Note that it is not a professional calibration tool. The app requires supported iOS devices and specific connections (HDMI adapters and cables, or AirPlay with Apple TV 3rd gen), and it includes extras like THX trailers and the Deep Note to showcase your tuned system.

## Review summary

Users largely praise THX Tune-Up for practical SDR picture adjustments, easy guidance, and cross-device usefulness, especially since it’s free. However, it’s widely seen as outdated and limited (no HDR/DV, few patterns), with frequent stability and compatibility issues on newer iOS devices. Some content doesn’t work, and setup often requires external connections. Overall, it’s a helpful but aging tool that would benefit from a real update.

### Pros

- Helps improve TV picture quality (brightness, contrast, color, tint) for SDR content with easy-to-follow guidance.
- Easy-to-use, with clear, understandable walkthroughs for calibrating settings.
- Includes a fun and notable feature (the deep note) that users enjoy.
- Works across multiple setups (AirPlay 2, Apple TV, HDMI adapters) to standardize TV appearance across devices.
- Free and long-standing tool that many users find useful for getting more out of their TV.

### Cons

- Outdated and infrequently updated; not optimized for recent iOS devices or screen sizes.
- Lacks HDR10 and Dolby Vision test patterns; SDR-focused with limited calibration options.
- Stability and compatibility issues on newer devices (crashes, won’t open, casting/mirroring problems).
- Some content/features don’t work (THX trailers, streaming content) and require external connections to function.
- Not a plug-and-play solution; relies on external hardware (AirPlay/HDMI adapters) and may feel clunky or unsupported.
