## Description

athenaPatient is a mobile app designed for patients whose providers have instructed them to download it. It securely connects you with your care team and provides quick access to health information, test results, and secure direct messaging. Features include biometric login, viewing lab and imaging results, self-scheduling visits, and check-in before appointments, plus telehealth when supported by your provider.

To get started, you must have an existing athenahealth Patient Portal account. Log in with the same email and password and you can enable Face ID or Touch ID for faster access. Availability of self-scheduling, check-in, and telehealth depends on your provider, and the app is available in the United States for patients of athenahealth network providers. If you don’t have portal details, your provider may offer access via their website.

## Review summary

AthenaPatient is widely praised for being easy to use, with strong messaging to clinicians and quick access to appointments and test results. Users also value saved logins and responsive staff. Reported drawbacks include gaps with portal parity (missing Care Summaries), multi-practice handling challenges, referral/status and billing workflows, and notification behavior that isn’t always reliable. Overall, it’s reliable and user-friendly, with room for feature parity and reliability improvements.

### Pros

- Messaging with clinicians and direct communication through the app

### Cons

- Notifications may not function as expected (push vs email alerts)
- Some test results may be missing or not yet available in the app
