## Description

Based on the 2023 Updated AGS Beers Criteria for Potentially Inappropriate Medication Use in Older Adults, the AGS Beers Criteria mobile app helps clinicians implement prescribing recommendations from a compendium of medications to avoid or consider with caution because they often present an unfavorable balance of benefits and harms for older adults. Key features include new in 2025: Alternative Treatments to Selected Medications across the 2023 Beers Criteria, offering nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic alternatives; quick search by generic drug name, organ system, or disease; browse medications by category; bookmarks and notes; and shareable patient resources.

The AGS Beers Criteria are meant to guide healthcare providers and older adults away from potentially harmful medications while also helping health systems recognize such decisions when assessing care quality. The app covers the main lists: Potentially Inappropriate Medications (PIMs) for Older Adults; PIMs for Older Adults with a Specific Disease or Syndrome; Drugs to Use with Caution in Older Adults; Drug–Drug Interactions; PIMs Due to Reduced Kidney Function; Drugs with Strong Anticholinergic Properties; and Criteria Removed. The new Alternative Treatments section includes evidence-based pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic options and clinician, patient, and caregiver resources to support implementation in practice.
