## Description

shiftscreen 4X turns your iPad or iPhone into a full secondary monitor, enabling fullscreen external display via cable or AirPlay. It supports the built-in browser, PDF viewer, web apps, and calculator, letting you work across two screens without black bars.

New in 4X: full mouse and trackpad support, 60fps rendering, multiple windows and tabs in the browser, 50+ keyboard shortcuts, doubled monitor resolution, rotation and color customization, and a zoom-in mode to focus a specific area.

## Review summary

Overall sentiment is mixed to negative. The app’s core value is a novel multi-window web-app workspace for iPad with external monitors, which some users find useful and reasonably priced. However, widespread concerns include extremely limited native-app support, reliance on internal web apps, lack of updates and support, and usability glitches. Many reviewers feel it isn’t worth the price given current limitations, though a subset of users appreciate the concept and its potential for browser-based workflows on external displays.

### Pros

- Enables a multi-window web-app workspace with resizable and movable browser windows on an external monitor
- Offers a novel second-screen experience for iPad, sometimes favored over Stage Manager
- Reasonably affordable for the niche functionality
- Works with external monitor setups and peripherals (AirPlay/Roku, Bluetooth keyboard/mouse)
- Useful for browser-based workflows and lightweight multi-tasking in specific use cases

### Cons

- Very limited app support: can’t launch native apps and only a few built-in/web apps are usable
- App appears abandoned or poorly maintained, with outdated updates and reports of failing feedback submissions
- Not worth the price for most users due to many missing features and restrictions
- External-monitor usage is constrained (many popular apps unavailable, some functions grayed out, cannot use 4K)
- Steep learning curve and usability issues (glitches, needs to keep the app open for full-screen, awkward window resizing)
