This is the story of Apanui Ringamutu the eponymous ancestor of Te Whanau a Apanui and his whanaunga Hikawera of Ngati Porou. They fought against each other several times with Hikawera coming out as victor.  Apanui Ringamutu the went on a journey to gain knowledge.
