## Description

U.S. Open AR is a Deloitte-built augmented reality experience that lets fans immerse themselves in the 2022 U.S. Open at The Country Club and the U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles, all within a single AR app. It enables Live Play with 3D views of all 18 championship holes, following any player in AR, and near real-time shot playback to replay moments from the tournament.

Other features include Pick Your Players to compare different golfers using a heatmap, Find a Player to locate and track players via leaderboard or search, and a 360° Museum Tour of the USGA Golf Museum & Library. To get started, download the app, select a championship, and launch the courses or the 360° Tour. Requires iOS 11.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. For more information, visit Deloitte and USGA pages; events run June 2–5 (Women’s Open) and June 16–19 (Open).

## Rankings

- #81,722 — Overall

## Review summary

Users like the idea of an AR golf experience and features like selecting players and viewing shot recaps, plus course layout visuals. However, the app is plagued by bugs, lack of updates for 2023, and inconsistent AR performance. Camera permission prompts often fail to initialize, and key live features (leaderboards, live shots) are unreliable or missing. Overall, the concept is promising but requires extensive fixes and updates to meet expectations for the US Open.

### Pros

- A novel AR experience that offers a different way to follow the tournament
- Ability to pick players and watch recaps of their shots
- Nice visualization of the course layout
- Promising concept and enthusiasm to use the app during the US Open

### Cons

- Buggy and not usable for many users; not updated for the current year
- AR interactions are inconsistent and not intuitive (players appear stationary, no live shots)
- Significant camera permission/setup issues blocking entry or progress on multiple devices
- No reliable live data or leaderboards; live shot review features are absent or nonfunctional
- Poor UX/UI and navigation; clunky to use across different devices
